About this website
I registered the domain antonputtemans.com in 2004 to become my personal website. Here is a little history about my online adventures.
Flash in multimedia school
2002 - 2004When I finished multimedia school in Belgium in 2002 my main domain was studiotunafish.net a portfolio website completely in Flash featuring website designs, early web video and various actionscript experiments and showcases.
I saw great potential in Flash those days - especially in the video department, but most of all because it was the best tool to overcome the various cross browser issues everybody was coping with!
With my "Macromedia Certified Flash Professional" title and my portfolio online I found a job in a cool video production house where I specialized in video compression, DVD authoring and shooting panoramic VR tours.
Back to sailing with on-board photos
2004 - 2006But the sea calls, and when I had the chance to work as a skipper on a Dutch racing yacht I did not hesitate a moment.
I bought a new Nikon camera and set up antonputtemans.com where I uploaded my 'on-board' photos from crappy internet connections, cybercafes and hacked wireless networks.
The webpage, still in Flash, was based on a calendar linking to photos. It was a great success by friends and family and of course because of my yachting activities.
Geo blogging with Wordpress
2006 - 2007The more I was traveling again the more I was blogging from remote locations. I started logging coordinates and waypoints, found ways to share them online. But Flash was not the right platform anymore and I switched to a Wordpress blog in which I implemented routes, Google Earth tracks, live positions and reports.
I even played around with the idea to develop a geo portal for sailors and travelers but when further researching I found out it would have been very hard to make profit from such an application and put it on the shelves.
DSLR photography
2007 - 2010I fell in love in Italy and committed. I enjoyed family life so much I took a job working as crew on a famous sail yacht, close to my new home.
Later on the owner of the yacht found my blog and was upset about his privacy because I had mentioned his VIP name. I thought he really exaggerated but deleted the posts anyway.
Because I was not traveling all that much anymore or I had to keep quiet about it anyway I gave up the Wordpress blog and started a minimal photo blog with one thing in mind: digg photography.
I bought a Nikon D300 and a few lenses and had a great time learning about the gear and techniques. My low light photography proved to be a favorite subject on my website.
Zenphoto
2010 - nowI have been working on a real estate photography project for quite some time now. It took me a lot of tries to find the right content management system that is multi language and only recently I found my Zen in ZenPhoto
Zenphoto will motivate me to pick up my cameras and hopefully get very creative again.
I will also try to archive my 'old stuff' sooner or later.
