Work contract and residence in Italy
Last week I signed a work contract in the costguard office in Portofino. My last regular full time job was in 2000 for North Sails Belgium, with the exception of working for "SailMaxiOne" in 2005. (which went bankrupt a few months after I started working there)
It's been a long way over the last couple of years in Italy. A lot of patience indeed. Gaining trust with people, taking chances, trying and learning. Efforts in my relationship too. But I made the right choices and now I can start constructing. I realize each day more and more that I always manage to find what I am looking for.
I have my residence in Santa Margherita too now. I live officially with my girlfriend Maria and her 8 year old daughter Caterina in Via Anton Maria Maragliano, no kidding. The last weeks we finally found the time to go through all the details, fill in the documents and pass the medical visits. But I made it, with an Italian seaman book I can start my career here now. A big thanks to my girlfriend, for the support. For always believing in me. For being a real woman. There where some difficult times, with one step forward and two steps back, but now the only way is up. Downwind sailing with the kite up.
At the moment it's high season. That means working every day, also weekends. In August the top month cruising. It's a bit like the ants who work in the summer. In the winter, from november on, the owner doesn't come sailing anymore and the boat goes to shipyard. From then it's low season, with a more free time. I am already planning a vacation with my girlfriend. In the weekends citytrips and outdoor sport activities. More time to visit my family in Belgium too.
